The Classics Section offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses which fall into two main categories: Greek and Latin Language courses and Classical Culture courses.

Greek and Latin begin with an intensive first-year course for those who have never studied the language before (students who have already matriculated in Greek or Latin will begin either in second semester or at second-year level).

In addition to Latin and Greek, the Section also offers an introduction to etymology (Word Power).

Classical Culture courses (which require no knowledge of Greek or Latin) focus primarily on ancient Greece and Rome, but also on other areas in the Ancient Mediterranean world such as North Africa and the Near East. Topics for study include history, mythology, literature, and thought.
